I have to say that this sounds like these girls were just mad when they found out he was seeing others, besides just them. Yes, he shouldn't have been messing around with girls who were underage, but he is 20 and they are 15-17. It's a little different (in my opinion) than if he were 40, or even 30. He definitely made a mistake (or several), but it looks to me like he's going to be paying because these girls got their hearts broken, rather than because they were actual victims of sexual abuse.

I worked with him at Bullwinkles and we had a nickname for him...creepy kyle...he was fired because he would hit on 14, 15, 16 year old girls which would of course make parents uncomfortable...he's a creep and he deserves what he got...hopefully he learns a lesson from all of this...

At our Grad party at Bullwinkles, we had to sit around and wait while their staff tried to figure out who stole a piece of UO memorabilia from them. After quite a while, Kyle finally admitted taking it.

I know Kyle personally and I was there when of the alleged "raping" happened and I, too, know FOR A FACT she is lying. Kyle has a good heart and sure, he has made some mistakes but who hasn't? He is an amazing friend and I consider myself lucky to have him in my life.

Ok.....Here I go..... To Jim, Andrea,Katy,JoJo, a fan of Kyles..... You guys all seem to know Kyle very well. I know cause I have known him for many years.
I know he isn't what the news and others make him out to be. Most of the time he was just a scared insecure kid that wanted to be liked by everybody. To his true friends and family he was a very loyal and kind person. To people that didn't know him very well he may have seemed like an arrigent prick. But if you really looked you got past that and saw the real Kyle. I know that a lot of girls liked to hang out with him because they wanted him to be their boyfriend. These girls were some of them. (Which also makes me wonder where these girls parents were while they were hanging out with older kids.) And isn't it amazing that when Kyle decided get his life together and wanted to settle down that suddenly they cry rape? Yes I know that rape is a horrible thing to have happen to you! I know cause I was a victim. I also know that Kyle is not the type that would force a girl into that.

David I., let me tell you from personal experience, Kyle was an irresistable person. Girls would flock to him like a moth to a flame. To this day, I don't always understand why. And for majority of the girls that hung out with him, they were friends of mine that came to OUR apartment to see ME. Little did I know, that later they would be accusing MY KYLE of such horrible things. I have been there everytime he has even been around any of my girls and I can tell you that 2 of the alleged "incidents" did NOT happen, the 3rd was completely consentual- they had been dating and both agree that it was probably the healthiest relationship they were ever in. Kyle is a good person, and I don't doubt that he's ever made a mistake in his life but RAPING UNDERAGE GIRLS IS NOT ONE OF THEM! Kyle, you're in my prayers and I can't wait to see you when you get out... Love ya!

Excuse me the 16 year old was one of my friends and I guarantee you it was one hundred percent consentual (btw- if you're going to try to insult me, at least use spell check!). ok, he was charged with variety of charges, but the rape charge is rape 3, which as pointed out in the statement below, is consensual sex between an adult and someone under the age of 18. It is still classified as rape, but not forced rape. As Katy herself pointed out, there was a consensual sex act between the accused and at least one of the girls - that is still rape 3 according to oregon law. Seems to me these aren't some trumped up charges - he did the crime, he participated in a sex act with someone under the age of consent in the state he was in.

As hard as it may seem to his friends and family, they also have conceded that there was sexual contact, and regardless of the girls motivations, it is illegal. He should not have gone there at all.

I could be wrong (I live in Australia and have no idea on american laws other than what I have read) but it seemed to me that Rape 3 is another name for statutory rape, which I am pretty sure is a class c felony. Like I said, I could be wrong, but I have seen stuff on the Crime and Investigation channel about men who have been found guilty of stat rape (their gf's were underage and the parent pressed charges) and they were serving time for the charge. (something like 5 years in prison and having to register as a sex offender?)

Lesson to all men - don't even attempt to do ANYTHING to underage girls, regardless of who they are, how they act or how you feel....don't even go there.

ok done more research and have discovered that if the girl is under 16 then it is a felony, if she is under 18 but older than 16 it is a misdemeanor.

So Kyle is being held on felony charges for the girl who was 15 at the time of the sexual contact.

I don't understand if he had so many women chasing him, why go for ones that are underage?

I would just like to say on this subject....I was a 24 year woman and I hooked up then had a baby with a 17 year old boy then ended up having 2 more kids and marrying him and divorcing after 10 years! I also read on the Columbia County web site that there was a WOMAN with 4 rapeIII charges and she only got 4 90 day sentances consecutive that is 12 months and from experience I know that on a 12month sentence with a job or trustee status as well as SB936 a person will only do a little more than half that year! Also all this BS of prison time well SB1145 is what they refer to as "state time on a county dime" which is serving a prison sentence of 12 months or less in a co. facility...Work Release, day reportin, ankle monitoring...ect. So with that said I hope that these "victims" can find it in there hearts to be honest with themselves, their parents, and GOD and tell the truth....that they maybe had sex, but he did not force himself on any one! Then since he is going on 7months locked up....Time Served!!!!

Dear friends of Kyle,
Advise Kyle to stop prowling for young girls. Young girls have notoriously bad judgement and apparently so does he. Young girls are allowed to be dramatic, high-strung, confused, easily angered, easily scared, upset and regretful. I have no idea of what the truth is with these girls, but being a young man, Kyle is better off forming relationships with young woman, not girls. Real men protect girls, not see what they can get over on them. Adults do react to "crying little girls" because it's our job to protect them from themselves and those who would prey on them. When someone takes advantage of their youth and raging emotions, adults are here to hand out the consequences.

If Kyle is the good person his friends say, I hope he uses this experience to grow and look out for people and not just his dick.

Yes, he did date a 16-year-old, I will give you that. But that relationship started by Kyle being there AS A FRIEND for her and hekped her escape a very abusive relationship. It's more supportive and believable to say Kyle is foolish rather than "mature." Clearly he did foolish things in flirting with and pursuing young girls. A mature person with his wits about him who did those things would be intentionally grooming and taking advantage of a kid's weaker position. Calling him mature puts an ugly light on it, makes it consciously predatory. Healthy men want to "be there" for kids but they don't want them for sexual gratification. They know using them for sex would not be "being there" for a girl but rather taking advantage of her. And in fact, real men would find the idea of getting sex from an abused young girl a gross out. Good men like partners and they like them to be equals. They don't prey on weaknesses.

We have this odd habit with predators. Either people turn their heads and deny completely, or we scream to crucify them. It's not helping.

The vehemence and polarity of this discussion is amazing. Some of us want to send him to jail forever to be raped by "Bubba" and some of us passionately insist nothing less than Kyle is a wonderful, mature, loving human being. "Creepy Kyle." Clearly the reality is somewhere in the middle. Clearly he found sport and gratification in pursuing girls not yet of age for sex. He was immature, self-serving, careless, but he was 20, so is that so surprising? He's not a monster, he was a jerk. Have none of us ever been jerks or loved jerks?

In his young jerkhood, we owe it to girls and ourselves and Kyle to see that he learns girls aren't prey or sport. We need him to see himself in that loving light so many of his friends see him in, insist he act exclusively in a way that is not harmful to others. Sounds like he can probably learn that. Let's punish him for his crimes, get him some serious counseling and then forgive him. Trust me, if we insist he's more monster and not the loving person his friends experience, he'll take his sport more seriously in the future.

Punishment doesn't fix people. It hardens them. Have to be careful with it.

It does not help Kyle for his friends to blindly deny he could ever be a jerk. He was a jerk. He knows this in his heart. Making him have to hide it just embeds it deeper in him. Why can't he just have a chance to say "God I was such a freaking asshole. I can't believe it" and know his friends can love him even though he fucked up bad? People do not change unless they're loved with their flaws. In fact, they usually focus on what they conceal, figuring it's bigger than even they imagined.

Let's let Kyle have been a jerk, insist he pays for the criminal part of it and see to it he has the tools to change his behavior to be the loving person he often is. Then forgive him. This cycle of making monsters out of young jerks has to stop. It's where many of our monsters come from.

Ok so here is the deal. Kyle does not go after young girls they dress up like little whores and look for him. Its not his fault that A. their parents let theese girls dress like hookers, and B. that he is a good looking guy. However Kyle never rapped any of them. "Rape" is the term we use for sex with a child. Rape is not reserved for intruders with knives. It is a sexual act with a vulnerable person.

Young girls (and often boys) have a stage they go through where they like to experiment with displaying their new bodies. It's a natural stage they are entitled to have. Two year olds have tantrums. 14 year olds wear mini skirts. You're right. Both need parental intervention.

Men, defined in this country as males 18 and over, do not prey on silly, ignorant young girls simply because their cleavage is out and the girl is experimenting with flirtation. It's a young man's job to communicate that men are trustworthy, respectable people because that is in part what the girls are trying to find out with their behavior. Because these are sophisticated concepts, we make it easy on men. We have pretty hard and fast rules about what age is mature enough to "consent." I've never met a person age 14 - 28 who didn't know their state's age of consent, complete with age gap rules.

These consent laws are painstakingly developed. When can a child be held legally responsible for "consenting" based on their actual psychological ability? I don't think any states say less than 16, though many are 17 and some 18. Children are notoriously bad decision-makers. It's kind of what childhood is for, to learn these things.

There is a pedophile group in one country that is lobbying for the age of consent to be 12. They're pedophiles, they have a special interest. People who do not desire sex with children know that people under 16 are still children unable to consent.

Do you know that under your definition of consent, 6 and 10 year olds "consent?" They are rarely forcibly raped. Rather they are groomed, told things they sort of want to hear, have their feelings interpretted for them by a dominant person, coaxed. So let's say an 11 year old boy is enamoured of his basketball coach. His coach is very nice, very generous, treats him like a grown up. The coach knows an 11 year old boy is interested in pictures of naked woman and sex, so he shares them, man to man. They might even do things like compare muscles and stuff. The boy feels admired. And as the boy grows to love this man and wants to please him, the man is able coax small sexual acts out of him. Maybe he is able to coax great sexual acts out of him. The boy may never object, certainly never screams or fights back, even though he feels icky and that something is wrong. By your definition, this boy has "consented," right?

Same for young girls. It is not hard to coax them into the sack, or into a car, or behind a building. Pre pubescent kids take a little more work, but not much.

Sleeping with kids is rape in America and plenty of other countries. There are some developing nations where it is still an ideal that men acquire girls as sexual partners. Kyle can address and change his deviant attractions (ephebophilia) or he can move to one of these countries or he can find himself chronically imprisoned. Those are his choices. Good, law-abiding men in this country reject the flirtations of children.

You're right, it's not fair. Boys are not protected enough. They do not recieve the support and guidance they need because they are abandoned to presumed "manhood" years before they are able.

I've worked with two young men who "consented" to sex at 13 with women. I've read other cases. The "way to go man, you scored!" attitude makes it hard for them to understand why they have sexual dysfunction in adulthood. They are very ashamed because they should be ultra studs having scored so young. it's what we teach them, right? In reality they are very hurt young men who often struggle to function sexually. Very sad.

Just because kids fantasize about sex, toy with the reality of it, masturbate even, in no way means they are anywhere near ready to have sex. Sex any younger than 16 damages them. They are not emotionally or psychologically ready to handle it in a healthy way.

Have sex with kids and you hurt them. That's the truth of the matter.

However after re-reading your comments especially the Jan. 7th 1:31 comment I realized, not only do you seem to know what you are talking about, you are also very correct about Kyle. He is NOT a monster, and he did not "prey" on little girls. Also I'm not sure where "Jo-Jo" has gotten his info, because Kyle never, NEVER, slept with any girls 14 or even 15 years old. And as far as someone 16 there may have been some casual flirting going on, but no sex. Being someone who is very close to this case, I know this to be fact. I do appreciate your comments.

We've got a discussion about Sean Lennon, a 21 year old who admitted to finding a 14 year old online and talking her into meeting him behind a fire station. There he had sex with her. He also took pictures of her during sex. Some are defending him for his youth, immaturity and ignorance and asking that the child share some of the burden. It blows my mind that because a person is nice and likable we can't admit they've doine a shitty thing. This head in the sand stuff creates a lot of trouble. People are complicated, especially in youth.

I have known Kyle for almost four years, we met at Oregon City High and we partied together a couple of times, during those times I have known Kyle to prey on girls from the ages of 16 to 17 and know of three girls he has slept with that were underage that are my friends, I have mixed feelings on what is going on with Kyle, I think girls can be really dramatic and try to get back at guys if they don't get their way, but I also know that Kyle is very charming and knows how to get a girl in his bed, which honestly how many guys do that everyday and nothing happens to them? Dan - in one of your previous comments you mention Sean Lennon. I do believe you and I had that discussion on another blog, but I do not recall anyone saying his crime should not go unpunished. However, putting young men on the Sex Offender Registry for life, for stupidity, and serving 7 years in prison, seems a little bit much for a first time offender. I am not saying the young girl was not a victim - there are no winners here - but it was not a brutal violent rape. It was more like an immature, just turned 21 year old guy, without much life experience, getting excited and decided to take advantage of a situation. Stupid because he did not realize, really realize that he would get caught, and the hefty consequence he would pay for some satisfaction that he should have received from a peer. His immaturity and lack of social graces plays a part in this crime -

He was not having sex with a multitude of young girls - he did not have much experience at all. The town we live in is like Mayberry.

I do know that Sean will benefit from whatever support and counseling he may receive and hopefully learn his motivations for taking advantage of this young girl, and how to cope with his new life. My concern is that instead of receiving the type of counseling and support he will need, he will be exposed to education of criminal behavior, taught at prison 101.

This young man - Kyle - obviously needs some type of intervention. If he was having sex with as many young girls and women as it sounds like here, then he should definitely have a medical check up at the very least.

Any young girl under the age of consent, should not be taken advantage of by an older guy. That is not to say that they are not willing and able, they are young and dumb and don't know what they want and figure having sex will do something for them. They are making a choice, not a very good one, but a choice nonetheless.

Girls and women have their lessons to learn, and men should be wary of having a relationship even if it is thrown at him - if the girl is under age. We all have the freedom to make choices.
But now Kyle, and Sean, both have their freedom to make choices that we take for granted - taken away. I wonder if they think that experience was worth it?

First off I have NEVER posted here. I was just told about this sight and that people were thinking someone else was me. jo jo ...... I don't know who you are or how you know about my tattoo but at the time I got it Kyle was engaged to my daughter and yes I did treat him like he was my son. But as anybody can tell you, you can never really know another person. Kyle has done some things that I believe he needs help for. If nothing else he needed to get help for what happened to him as a child and then maybe none of this would be happening now. I feel for Kyles family. This trial has not been easy on me either. Having to hear all this about a person that I treated as a son for a long time. But I can say that looking back with a clear head and not one that was going thru a lot of shit and on medication, that hind sight is 20/20. To Kyle's family.... You and Kyle are in my prayers and always will be!!! That is all I have to say!!!

This day has been long coming and it is only karma that this came up to bite him in the ass. The manipulation that he employs is masterful, able to warp the minds of young girls and women to belive that he loves them only to go out and bang another girl the same night. I just wanted to say that I fully understand Kyle was a player and has made mistakes in his life, but tell me that none of you have not! Why is it illegal for Kyle to have consentual sex with minors, yet these minors get no punishment for the same act? Why did some of these girls continue to befriend him? Why did they continue to call? Why did some of them at very young ages either have babies or abortions? Yet Kyle is on trial for his permiscuity...So does he really deserve to "rot in an orange jumpsuit"? " To never see the light of day"? These "victims" were all claiming to have "won"....What exactly did they win? Chris Owen made it very clear they had nothing to gain from all this...but they "won"! That has got to be the most retarded thing I have heard anyone say in a long time,OK let's make this clear for anyone who wasnt taking notes. A minor (hence anyone under the age of 18) cannot consent to sex with an adult (anyone over the age of 18), I doesnt matter if the girl was 16, 13, or 6, she cannot legally give consent, so even if she does agree, say "Yes", initiate,etc., it is still illegal. These laws were set up to protect minors for preying adults.
Also you said that everyone makes mistakes, everyone screws up, you know getting a speeding ticket, that is a mistake, oversleeping and being late for work that is a mistake. Dating and having sex with a minor is not a mistake, that is a premeditated act that weather or not he knew it was illegal, is still illegal. So many people use the excuse "well I didnt know it was illegal", well I have heard many legal analysts say "ignorance is not an excuse for breaking the law".
